To start with, I simply typeset all of the research and printed them out; 185 pages! I then went through and cut out any form of the words “feminist”, “woman”, “girls”, “suffrage”, “female” inspired by the craft in Tree of Codes. I left in pronouns and names as it was important to me that you could still gather enough information from the pages to look further into it if required. The concept of the book was to highlight the gaps created in a story when a woman’s contribution is removed - I didn’t plan the pages at all and yet there is a word cut out of every page. I decided to create imagery from the offcuts as a way of further emphasising the importance of women.
